I always see these “day in the life” posts and love them! I think it’s fun to see what other kiddos and families day to day lives are like so I decided to keep track on a day I wasn’t working. So, here is a full day in the life of a toddler in case you are curious what other families are up to, or miss these crazy days! It’s a bit of a long one!
4:48 I hear L coughing from his room. He woke up the day before with a really deep cough and I am surprised he slept as well as he did. I grab my phone and scroll through Instagram, hoping he falls back asleep.
5:05 I head downstairs, turn on the coffee and grab my computer.
I have our coffee pot set to brew at 5:30 but always am up earlier and turn it on sooner. Why haven’t I changed it to brew earlier yet? Once the coffee is finished I pour a mug full and snack on a whole wheat banana mini muffin. I made a batch of these earlier in the week for L, half have chocolate chips and they are so good! And obviously healthy, whole wheat.
I finish up some work and look at the monitor. L never fell back asleep so I jump in the shower at 6:05. I only wash my hair about two times per week so I am in and out in a few minutes. My husband gets L while I get ready, and as soon as he sees me he reaches out his arms! I scoop him up he instantly rests his head on my shoulder, laying like this for a few minutes!Heaven. Pure heaven. I hate when he is sick but I love these moments.
Around 6:30 we head downstairs for breakfast. L snacks on some cut up berries while I make us both peanut butter and banana toast and yogurt. L has plain full fat organic mixed with plain pumpkin puree, I have the rest of a coconut Chobani mixed with some pumpkin too.
Unfortunately, because he isn’t feeling so hot breakfast isn’t a big hit and he only has about a 1/4 of it. Normally, breakfast is his best meal of the day and he’ll finish just about everything.
I set L down on the ground and clean up a bit. We play, read books, and run around the house. His favorite thing right now is to grab both my hands and pull me one direction then push me in the other. It’s even better if I beep like he is a truck backing up then make a different noise as he pushes me forward. He finds it hilarious and laughs non stop.
Around 8:30 my doctors office calls. They had to cancel my visit the day before due to the snowstorm and say they can see me in 45 minutes. We rush around to get ready, head out the door and pray L does well. I try not to bring him to my appointments but there is only so much we can do! We get there 5 minutes late and I apologize like crazy. L plays for a few minutes and makes a few dashes towards the door. It’s a busy place and he’s a curious boy! We are in and out in 10 minutes and back home by 10:15. L snacks on a few mini muffins (no chocolate chips for him).
He is ready for a nap a bit early around 11 so I put him down and hope that he’ll take a nice long rest and wake up feeling better. I open my computer and work on the floor, sitting in the sun with my cats.
I do some bookkeeping work and get some things finished for the blog and then take a break for lunch, a random mix of leftover cauliflower, a few broccoli tots that L refused to eat, and two fried eggs. It wasn’t very satisfying or good so I pour an iced coffee and have a muffin with it for a sweet treat.
I work for another hour or so then lay down myself since L is still sleeping! Around 1:30 he wakes up and is quite happy! I try to feed him lunch but he shoves it all away. He is pretty stubborn and difficult with food lately. I settle for another banana muffin and a yogurt while he runs around.
We face time with my mom in California around 2. L pays attention every now and then, smiling at her and trying to touch the phone, but he is on the move. Every time we face time she always comments how he never sits still. Yup! Life with a toddler.
We hang up with her and get ready to head out for another appointment. It isn’t normal I book so much stuff with him but it’s just the way it worked this week.
He does great at the appointment and we are back home around 4:30, right when my husband gets home too!
L is pretty cranky so I put on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while my husband and I chat and I get L’s dinner ready. He is having Annie’s Organic Mac and Cheese, a little meat sauce I made for pasta the other night, and some mixed veggies.
I go to put him in his highchair but he clings to my body for dear life. Does anyone’s child do this?! Rather then force him and endure a meltdown I feed him bites while he watches Mickey Mouse and think I am the worst mom for allowing it but at least he is eating.
After he finishes up we all sit down in the living room for a little TV and playtime. TV shows entertain L some, but he very rarely sits there totally zoned out. He is always playing with other toys or grabbing books.
Around 6 we head upstairs for a bath, which L loves. Bath time has always been a favorite and he splashes around and makes a big mess for about 20 minutes.
We head into his room, get dressed, read Llama Llama Red Pajama, I sing him his song, and then tuck him into bed. It takes about ten minutes for him to go down, thankfully no longer! I wasn’t sure how he’d do considering his cold.
My husband and I eat pizza and salad for dinner, I grab a bowl of Halo Top ice cream and head up stairs to bed! I am sound asleep by 9!
So, there’s a full day in the life of a toddler at 14 months old! We both can’t wait for the warmer weather to get here so we can get outside more often. Hopefully spring is not too far away!
