How is it Monday morning already!? Do you have today off for the holiday? I hope you do! I unfortunately will be at work but that’s okay, we had a great weekend!
Saturday morning I woke up early like I always do when I have to work. I made my coffee, ate breakfast with my boys and headed off to work. I sat in the parking lot until about 8:05 (we open at 8) when it hit me. We work NEXT Saturday! Greatest and worst surprise ever! I loved having the day off but now I have to go in next weekend 🙁
Oh well. I got more time at home and we made the best of it! My husband and I decided last minute to celebrate my birthday this weekend instead of next and went out for a fabulous dinner!
We went to our favorite Italian restaurant, the Trattoria 89 Central in Milford, Ma. If you are local, we highly recommend it! It is a beautiful restaurant set down in a basement with exposed beams, a nice bar, and the best food. I enjoyed two Lemon Drop martinis, incredible shrimp for an app, Cesar salad, and chicken piccata for dinner. I then came home and had ice cream for dessert. SO stuffed!
L spent the night at my mother in law’s so we were able to sleep in Sunday morning! And by sleep in I mean we were up at six instead of 5:30 but we relaxed in bed drinking coffee until 9! It was wonderful!!!
Once we got ourselves together for the day we ran to Whole Foods for breakfast and groceries and then to pick up our little guy. The weather in Boston was incredible yesterday and reached almost 60 degrees! Birds were chirping, the windows were open, and we spent some time outside!
We live only a few minutes from a big cemetery and it’s perfect for days like this with L. The parks are too muddy right now with the melting snow, but the cemetery has plenty of paved roads that are perfect for him to run around. Of course, he also found all the big puddles and was soaked by the time we got home but it was so nice to get some fresh air and let him do his thing! He was so incredibly happy!
Unfortunately L is still sick and cutting his top molars so the rest of the day was a little bit of a drag. He was super cranky all afternoon and had melt down after meltdown so we finally put on Mickey Mouse and lounged around. I got lots of cuddles though! Poor kid.
I did some meal prep while L was busy and worked on a yummy muffin recipe. Strawberries were on sale at Whole Foods so I combined them with yogurt, honey, whole wheat flour, and some other ingredients. Unfortunately, the middle sank once I pulled them from the oven. The flavor is there, but the recipe needs some tweaks.
L was in bed by 5:30 and I spent the rest of the evening writing this post and reading up on Whole 30. We are giving it a go with my mother in law next week and need to learn as much as possible! There is so much info! The Whole 30 book itself is filled with so much information and this Paleo Instant Pot cookbook was a recent gift filled with amazing recipes!
My biggest driving factor for wanting to try the Whole 30 “diet” is due to the chronic pain I feel with work. As a dental hygienist, body pain is nearly inevitable. Repetitive motions and a hunched over position all day, it’s a recipe for disaster. I am also developing some arthritis in my hands and hopeful an anti inflammatory diet will help! The meals all sound great but no wine, ice cream, or peanut butter will be a challenge!!
Have you tried Whole 30? Any tips?!
I hope you all had a great weekend, enjoy the day!
