Hey, hey, everybody! I hope you all had a fantastic Fourth of July and were able to celebrate with family and friends! Ours was super low-key, just how we like it! We thought about taking L to fireworks or a parade but at his age, I just don’t think it would work. Staying up late, loud booms, traffic to play in… all a bad idea for this wild and busy 1.5 year old! Next year!
Instead, we spent Monday working on our home and spent some time with my dad and step-mom. When we bought our condo 2 years ago the bathroom vanities were super outdated and sort of ugly. We’ve put off updating them mostly out of laziness but as we think more and more about moving in the near future we knew it was time to update them and a long weekend was the perfect chance!
My dad is a carpenter and super handy so he helped my husband install the vanities and showed me how to do all the tiling for the backsplashes. The bathrooms are 90 percent complete, just needing some grout on the tile and a little cleaning and we will be all set to go!
After they finished we grabbed take-out and went over to the local lake for a little bit. L loved splashing around in the water and feeling the waves crash against him. He sat in the water for probably an hour just playing around, feeling for rocks, and taking it all in. I can’t wait to spend more summer days there with him!
Tuesday, the actual Fourth of July, we finished up some errands, let L take his nap, and then went to a friends’ for a barbecue! L was the only kid there and soaked up every bit of attention he could get. He played ball with all the guys, ate far too many graham crackers and pretzels, and called it a night early.
Not the most festive day but we had a fantastic Fourth of July none the less! It’s funny how different holidays are now that we have a kid. No more long days partying at the beach followed by parades, fireworks, bonfires, and cookouts. I get a little bit sad to not have the freedom to do whatever I want but also LOVE spending time with family and friends and seeing how much L enjoys it.
I look forward to the days of taking him to parades and fireworks. To the days of letting him eat s’mores, hot dogs, and all the junk he wants because, well, it’s a holiday!
How was your Fourth of July? I hope it was super fun!!
